How does it work?

A Virtual Network Adapter

awl creates a virtual network interface (TUN, or wintun on Windows) on each device. To your apps it's just another IP-level network.

Devices Find Each Other

Each device announces itself in the public libp2p DHT, which the same kind of tech BitTorrent runs on. No coordination server, no account.

They Connect Directly

Traffic flows peer-to-peer over QUIC or TCP with TLS 1.3, punching through NATs. When a direct path is impossible, encrypted traffic falls back to community relays, which only ever see ciphertext.

Your Key Is Your Identity

Each device has an ed25519 keypair, and the peer ID is the public key. Peers must add each other explicitly — strangers can't connect, and there's no certificate authority to trust.
